Grounded, neutral objects
gain or lose electrons by induction.

Case III - Negative rod/neutral object

Electrons are repelled down into the ground. Object becomes positive

Case IV -Positive rod / neutral object

Neutral object becomes negative as electrons are drawn up from the ground
