A Message from the Director
Eileen T. McMahon
As we conclude another year of the program, the Scholars have all worked hard on their volunteer hours and projects and have certainly done all while maintaining their excellent grades. Two were recognized for poetry (Juliette deVenoge and Catherine Obidienzo) and another for essay-writing (George Beglin III). Courtney Heed from the Class of 2010 was awarded first place for Best Feature in the journalism awards issued by The Long Island Catholic. Grace Chao was valedictorian for the Class of 2009 and Anna deVenoge, salutatorian. In addition, Grace has been chosen as a Presidential Scholar by President Barack Obama and reported in an article in Newsday that the SSI was of assistance in her journey.
I thank all Scholars for their hard work and wish you a very wonderful summer!
