Baptism
This sacrament is known as the first sacrament of the Church.
Anyone who accepts Jesus as the Savior enters into God's Church
through the Sacrament of Baptism. Adults (anyone over the age of
7 according to Canon Law) who were not baptized and desire
baptism enter the RCIA process. Anyone
under the age of 7 who seeks Baptism can do so by contacting the
parish office. Parents may be asked to fulfill certain
prerequisites prior to the actual Baptism of their child.
New parents must attend two classes.
All parents must attend a second session and the 9:00 Mass on
the Second Sunday of every month. Please
see also our Baptism
Preparation page.
Infant Baptisms are scheduled for the 2nd and 4th Sunday of every
month. The ceremony begins promptly at 2:00 PM. These joyous
celebrations bring many families together. It is in this way that we
fulfill the ideal to celebrate the sacraments as the community
gathered. Please feel free to review possible dates by contacting
the parish office. Other times are possible for families who have a
priest or deacon who is a family member or close friend. If this is
the case, please contact the parish office to schedule a time.
Godparents should be selected with great care. They should be
faith-filled Catholics who are practicing the faith. If two are
chosen, they must be of the opposite sex to maintain the image
of parents. One must be a fully initiated Catholic over the age
of 16. The second should be a Catholic although a validly
baptized individual of another Christian faith may be chosen as
a Christian Witness. Unbaptized individuals cannot be chosen
(e.g. a member of the Jewish faith cannot be a godparent). There
are other exceptions so please contact the parish office before
making a final selection for godparents.
