Holy Orders
This threefold vocational sacrament of Bishop, Priest, and Deacon
is for those who are chosen and consecrated by the Holy Spirit Who
enables them to act in the person of Christ, for the service of all
the members of the Church. The fullness of priesthood is found in
the Episcopal Order, the bishop, who is commissioned to Shepherd
God's people. The priesthood is shared in the Presbyteral Order, the
priest, who is commissioned to preach the Good News. The Diaconal
Order, the deacon, is one of service to the church. For young men
seeking admission to the priesthood, this is a transitional step.

The Sacrament of Holy Orders is a wonderful vocation for a young
man who may wish to serve God's people in this capacity. Any young
man who wants to know more about the priesthood should speak to one
of the priests. There are many opportunities throughout the year to
explore this call more deeply.

Since the reforms of the Second Vatican Council, the Order of
Permanent Deacon has been reestablished. Married or single men over
the age of 35 who feel they are called to serve in this capacity
should speak to one of the priests or contact the diocese.
